Some of the factory workers have confirmed receipt of such allowances in their bank accounts, and according to a press statement from the LNDC, the second disbursement of the subsidy to the beneficiaries was made effective from Monday.
The corporation acknowledges and applauds the support rendered by the key stakeholders including the financial institutions, the employers and unions in the facilitation of the payments to the beneficiaries.
It further says the manufacturing sector is a significant contributor to Lesotho’s economy in terms of private investment inflows, export or forex earnings, taxes, and employment.
“The Government of Lesotho continues to pledge its full commitment to lessen to the extent possible, the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic to this sector,” reads the statement.

The government meanwhile on April 13 and May 5 took a policy decision to introduce a wage subsidy programme to disburse M800 to individual industrial workers as an intervention to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19 global pandemic.
It assigned the LNDC the responsibility to administer the disbursement of such to the beneficiaries.
