MASERU - In response to the fast spreading epidemic of the Coronavirus, strict measures have been taken to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The Chinese government has as a result mandated a quarantine of Wahun city on January 23 along with all Chinese provinces while municipalities have taken measures on first-level response to the epidemic.

Addressing a media briefing on Tuesday, the Chinese ambassador to Lesotho His Excellency Lei Kezhong made an assurance that the virus had not yet spread to the African continent.

He said a 1000-bed hospital called Huoshenshan has been built in Wuhan and is already in operation.

He said another hospital, Leishenshan with 1 500 beds opened its doors for patients on Tuesday.

Both hospitals he said were completed within 10 days after plans for their construction were made.

HE Kezhong said fighting against the epidemic has become a top priority across the whole nation, while at the same time, China is working closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the international community at large to contain the spread of the epidemic.

“The whole nation is mobilised to fight against the epidemic. More than 1 400 people from the army medical services were dispatched to Wuhan for the combat,” he also said.
