RECENT COVID-19 updates released by the National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) have shown a steady rise in fatalities related to the pandemic and the latest report places the death toll at 40.

There are no new recoveries recorded as the national cumulative remains at 926, while 84 newly confirmed cases increase the total to 1 767 after 524 tests were conducted.

About 19 952 specimens have been tested since testing began.
The update comes amidst the secretariat’s satisfaction with the way Basotho have been conducting themselves lately according to its former Chief Executive Officer Thabo Khasipe’s presentation on the status of Lesotho’s infection rate.

The secretariat had previously reported increased positivity rate and Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro also announced that the country would remain in the purple stage.
Dr Majoro had announced that government is ready to ensure the return of economic activity in the country following months of restrictions since the emergence of the deadly novel coronavirus in March.

Cabinet has since eased some of the restrictions like restaurants where people are now allowed to order food and dine while considering social distancing.

Dr Majoro said Cabinet also resolved to reopen borders under strict conditions, allowing exceptions like Basotho who are still in South Africa and want to return home only if they produce health clearance certificates.
