THE incessant absence of Dr Onkemetse Tshosa in the High Court where he is supposed to hear three trials against soldiers who face among others, multiple murder charges forestalls the trials from proceeding.

The judge who was last week unavailable for the set down of the cases was on Monday still not available get the new hearing dates of the matters.

Another judge, Justice Kabelo Lebotse who was appointed to hear some of the high profile cases in the High Court has since stepped down.

Allegations of Justice Tshosa’s possible resignation have been making rounds but the Registrar of the High Court was on Monday not available to confirm them.

Cases before Justice Tshosa include the one in which two political leaders are expected to be joined in as co-accused to the soldiers charged with, among others, the murder of police Sub-Inspector Mokheseng Ramahloko at the police headquarters on August 30, 2014.
Mothetjoa Metsing, leader of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) and Selibe Mochoboroane, leader of the Movement for Economic Change (MEC) have unsuccessfully been trying to secure immunity from prosecution as well as challenge their joinder.

Mr Metsing is also the former Deputy Prime Minister while Mr Mochoboroane is the Minister of Development Planning

Another case is the one in which some soldiers are accused of strangling to death Lekhoele Noko, Khothatso Makibinyane and Molise Pakela at the Setibing military camp in Maseru on May 16, 2017.

The accused are alleged to have thereafter dumped the deceased's bodies in the Mohale Dam.
They also face a battery of other charges including conspiracy to murder, unlawful detention and issuing superior orders to unlawful detention.
They are further accused of the murder of Thabang Mosole, Monyane Matsie and Pakiso Ntala Letatabe in Ha Motanyane, Mafeteng on April 7, 2012. LeNA
