POLICE have temporarily halted the enlistment of recruits at the Police Training College (PTC) to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police spokesperson Sub Inspector ’Mareabetsoe Mofoka said all schools across the country have been forced to close due to the deadly virus, hence PTC is no exception.

“Everything is on stand still due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we cannot make intakes now under the prevailing situation” she said, adding that the police will only know the next step to take on January 27.

Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro on Tuesday last week imposed a two-week lockdown aimed at curbing the spread of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scores of Basotho youth submitted applications at various District Police Offices countrywide in November 2020 to join the police service.
