The Lesotho Judiciary, hand in hand with Eswatini Judges, held a workshop for sensitization of judges and other legal officials on the role of international labour standards with assistance of International Labor Organization (ILO) on Tuesday last week. When giving the opening address, Acting Chief Justice 'Maseforo Mahase said as Lesotho and a signatory of 20 ILO conventions, they cannot claim to be a nascent democracy that guards and promotes basic human rights, particularly the international labour standards. She pointed out that it is worth noting with a great degree of satisfaction that participants at the ground- breaking workshop are drawn from judges and representatives of lawyers to impact their new-found knowledge to their colleagues,labour lecturers and registrars. Justice Mahase encouraged both lawyers and courts, from the lowest to the highest echelons ,where circumstances permit ,to seek inspiration and develop their sources of labour law from the compendium of labour court decisions from across the world to enrich their jurisprudence. On the other hand , Director of the Pretoria ILO country office Mr. Joni Musabaya indicated that this week's workshop inscribes itself in the context of increased exchanges among judiciaries across frontiers. He stated that the purpose of the workshop was indeed to promote discussions and exchanges of experiences regarding some crucial fields of the International Labour Law and how it can bring added value to domestic legislation.
