SENIOR Superintendent Thabo Tšukulu who commanded the Leribe police at the time the late Police Constable Mokalekale Khetheng went missing in May 2016 has denied ever transferring a police detective working under his command for wearing a T-shirt with the picture of the late policeman.

This emerged on Friday during the cross examination of Sergeant Khothatso Mphutlane by Tšukulu’s lawyer, King’s Counsel Karabo Mohau.

Tšukulu is charged along Mabitle Matona, Mothibeli Mofolo and Haleokoe Taasoane for the murder of Khetheng on March 26, 2016.

All accused are police officers and were stationed in Leribe at the time Khetheng went missing after his arrest on arson charges.

KC Mohau on Friday submitted before High Court judge Justice Charles Hungwe that when his client realised that Mphutlane who is based in Hlotse was not appropriately dressed for work, he ordered her to go back home and dress properly.

Mohau told the court how the witness had thereafter asked Tšukulu to take her out of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and temporarily place her in the Beat Patrol Unit, pending her transfer to the Peka Police Station.

The court heard how Mphutlane was transferred to Peka because there was an urgent need for a female detective at that police station.

Matona, Mofolo and Taasoane are represented by KC Zwelakhe Mda while Senior Counsel Shaun Abrahams prosecutes on behalf of the Crown.
