PITSO Mosimane's Al Ahly qualified for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League after a narrow 1-0 win over Al-Hilal in the last group game on Sunday evening.

Mosimane made four changes from the side that thrashed Al-Merreikh, as Aliou Dieng, Ayman Ashraf, Karim Fouad and Ahmed Abdelkader were all recalled while Percy Tau retained his place in the line-up.

Al Ahly were forceful in the early stages as Abdelkader came close to giving them the lead in the 18th minute with a header in the box from Afsha's cross that was smothered by goalkeeper Ali Abu-Eshrein.

Al Hilal risked playing a high line but their timing was spot on, as they kept the Red Devils away from their goal although they were unable to trouble shot-stopper Mohamed El Shenawy, as the sides were deadlocked at halftime.

Al Ahly were on top of Al-Hilal after the break, and Tau had a chance to break the deadlock on the hour-mark after a pass by Afsha in the box but he dragged his effort wide.

Mosimane made an attacking change in the 67th minute as Mohamed Sherif made way for Hussein El Shahat, who went on to broke the deadlock 16 minutes before time with a neat finish into bottom corner after he was setup by Abdelkader.

Tau came close five minutes before time with a looping strike that was kept out by Abu-Eshrein but the hosts held on to book their spot in the quarter-finals as runners-up in the group behind Mamelodi Sundowns while Al-Hilal finished in third place. Soccer Laduma
