LESOTHO international, Tumelo Khutlang has cemented his stay in the South African elite league, DSTV Premiership by penning a two-year deal with an option for another year at Moroka Swallows FC.

The Soweto-based outfit popularly known as the Dube Birds this week announced signing Khutlang and a number of other new players.

The Likuena forward joined Swallows from Black Leopards, which he left in July after Lidoda Duvha could not renew the contract he signed with them in July 2018.

President of Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), King’s Counsel Salemane Phafane on Thursday congratulated Khutlang on his move to Swallows.

“LeFA President congratulates the senior national team star Tumelo Khutlang, following his big move to Swallows FC in the South African Premier League on a two-year deal. Khutlang was impressive for the national team despite the first round exit at the recent COSAFA Cup held in South Africa, scoring a beautiful free kick against Eswatini and also walked away with the Man of the Match accolade in the 2-1 victory over Zambia. He joins the Birds from Black Leopards, where he had been playing his football since 2018,” KC Phafane said in a statement.

Khutlang’s signature at The Birds is regarded as one of his biggest achievements as the club fine tunes its squad for the 2021/2022 season.

Khutlang joins the likes of Keletso Makgalwa, Katleho Mohamme, George Matlau, Jody February, Mphamiseni Nene, Yagan Sasman, Muwape Musonda, Dillon Solomons, Thandayi Ntshumayelo, Khethukuthula Ndlovu, Monnapula Saleng and Austin Muwowo on the list of new signings for the Dube side this season.

One of the club’s supporters Bongani Hlubi said Swallows will be unstoppable with this squad.

“With this new squad, no one will be safe anymore, thanks to our management. Now it's up to Truter and Dladla to do the job, we have all the weapons in our arsenal, I predict two trophies this season plus a big sponsor and a CAF qualifier for sure. I’m happy with these players, Shamba ngolayini baphela abantu, ‘Don’t follow me, follow the bird,” he cheerfully said.

Another fan, Godfrey Mojafi said if one wants to see real football, they should watch Swallows up against Orlando Pirates.

“That is a real South African derby, watch it in the MTN 8 Cup then you will see what Swallows are all about. Then watch Swallows against Bloemfontein Celtic, our first three points and after the Pirates match, I know MTN 8 belongs to the Dube Birds and we are going to win this cup, mark my words,” he confidently predicted.

The Brandon Truter-led side will be in action against Pirates on August 14 in MTN 8 Cup opener. The former Richards Bay head coach Simo Dladla was roped in by Swallows’ technical team in May to assist Truter.
