FORMER Matlama FC mentor Charles Manda, has joined Lijabatho FC as their head coach after the Morija-based Vodacom Premier League side parted ways with Coach Thabile Secker on Monday.

The Malawi born coach was shown the door by Tse-Putsoa a fortnight ago accused of poor showing.

Lijabatho Public Relations Officer, Tšepiso Thoso has confirmed that both the team and Secker failed to reach an agreement on the renewal of his contract which was expected to end in July.

“We agreed to amicably part ways with him as the two parties could not reach common ground in respect of his future with the team.”

Thoso added: “The club immediately looked for a new coach to replace him and we managed to secure the services of former Matlama head coach, Charles Manda who will be with the club until the end of the 2020/21 season.

“He accepted all the terms and conditions of our offer and was introduced to the club management and the players on Tuesday morning in Morija. He afterwards held his first training session with the team.”

He applauded Secker for his immense contribution towards the team’s development since he joined them in 2020.

“He helped put our team in very good status in the Vodacom Premier League,” he said.

Lijabatho are on the eighth spot on the 16-team log with 16 points collected from 11 matches, after winning four, drawing four times and losing thrice.

Secker joined Lijabatho in January 2020 with the club on position 13 on the then 14-team Econet Premier League log.

Thoso said the team has been on camp at the Mophato oa Morija since football activities resumed earlier this year, after they were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to ensure that the club gets well prepared for the new season. Camping together enables the players to get ready for both mid-week and weekend matches while also getting a chance to rest and get better acquainted,” Thoso further showed.

Shortly after his appointment, Manda told Metro that he is currently not in a position to comment on the matter.

“I cannot say anything about the team at this point because I don’t have full details. But I am confident that I will be in a better position to comment about my charges later in the week,” he said. Lijabatho FC are sponsored by Sima Communications, a local betting company which operates branches in various places across the country.
