THE new soccer season for Premier League teams will kick off on Saturday December 12, the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) has announced.

The PLMC had previously proposed the weekend of December 5 - 6 for the resumption of the league fixture, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

The body’s Communications and Marketing Manager Qamako Mahao said they selected the above mentioned date after looking at several factors.
“We are still engaged in negotiations with several companies to sponsor not only the league but also other cups this season,” he said.
Mahao noted that they are expecting to conclude the deal for the league with new sponsors this week, adding that all the details and the name of the new sponsor will be officially announced in due time.

The provisional fixture, he said that was proposed to kick off on December 5 had miraculously leaked to the media, adding that it has since been revised for fairness to all the stakeholders.
He said although supporters will be allowed to attend the league games, but the selected venues will only be filled to half capacity as per regulations.
The PLMC, he further showed has selected open venues to host the games based on COVID-19 regulations.
