As the festive season approaches, the public should prepare for increment of entrance fees as the tourism sector will be incorporating tourism levy.

This, Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) Public Relations Manager Mrs. ‘Manchafalo Motsóeneng stated when speaking in an interview in Maseru on October 12.

Mrs. Motsóeneng noted that tourism levy collection has already commenced with the revised rates as requested by the tourism enterprise. She added that tourists should prepare to see changes in attraction entrances, lodging fees and other travel services by tourism enterprises.

She indicated that the tourism levy is important as it will contribute towards the development of tourism sector in the country, so that more Basotho can benefit from it and be able to sustain their lives.

She urged the public to travel more this festive season and engage in domestic tourism so as to know the country more and as a result be able to sell Lesotho to the international tourist, therefore attract them to visit Lesotho more.

She further urged Basotho to support major events to be hosted this festive season in order to contribute towards their growth and empowerment, adding that through the events, they will get to learn more about Basotho’s culture.

She pointed out that levy is a way that allows the business of tourism to reinvest to the tourism industry and support the promotion of Lesotho as a destination of choice for locals and international travellers.

Mrs. Motsóeneng said the levy would be used for the development and improvement of the products and services within the industry, adding that such developments will stimulate sustainability in tourism.

She further revealed that the developments will translate to more jobs, more revenue for Basotho and ultimately the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and others.

LTDC provides leadership in the development of a strong and vibrant tourism industry which contributes to sustainable economic growth, job creation, poverty alleviation and protection of the natural environment.

It is mandated to market Lesotho as a preferred destination for tourists.
