NACOSEC warns Basotho to obey COVID guidelines

THE National Covid-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) has appealed to Basotho to observe the guidelines that regulate the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement released by the Communications and Publicity Manager of NACOSEC ’Mateboho Mosebekoa, the plea follows a rise in positive cases in both Lesotho and the Free State province in South Africa.

Due to the escalating cases of COVID-19, she requested Basotho to take serious precautionary measures to combat the virus.
The SA Department of Health has recorded 1 778 new infections in the last 24 hours, pushing the neighbouring country's known caseload to 1 596 595.
Eleven more people have died after contracting the coronavirus, bringing the national death toll to 54 735 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The department has confirmed that two variants found in India and the United Kingdom (UK) have been detected in South Africa.

The department further shows that the country has 11 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant discovered in the UK and four cases of the B.1.617.2 variant found in India.

The latest reports from the NACOSEC report reveal that Lesotho stands at cumulative 84 079 tested cases, over 10 000 of which tested positive with 319 related deaths.
