The Speaker of National Assembly Sephiri Motanyane gave members of parliament a heads up during his welcome remarks on Friday February 21 as parliament resumed business after festive season recess. His first item on the agenda was informing members of parliament that the Minister of Finance Dr. Moeketsi Majoro was ready to deliver 2020/2021 Budget speech on Wednesday February 26. Mr. Motanyane said the budget speech would be beamed live on both state radio and Lesotho Television.

The Minister of Health Nkaku Kabi tabled subordinate laws on drug abuse (Cannabis) regulations 2019, while the Minister of Home Affairs Mokhele Moletsane also tabled Lesotho Passports and Travel Documents (Fees) regulations 2019, as well as the Lesotho Citizenship (Amendment of schedule) Regulations, 2019.

The Minister of Finance Dr. Moeketsi Majoro also tabled financial institutions (Payment of Expenses for Examinations) regulations, 2019 which were all referred to the relevant portfolio committees. The reopening of the national assembly was also graced by the presence of members of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States and the European Union Parliamentarians members, who are currently holding their 18th Regional Meeting. It is the (Southern Africa) Joint Parliamentary Assembly in Maseru from February 20th to 22nd February, 2020.

They were Mr. Joseph Hyacinthe Owona Kono from Cameroon, Mr. Leonard-Emile Ognimba who is the head of delegation from Congo-Brazzaville, Mr. Salmao Hose Luheto Xirimbimbi from Angola, Mr. Molebatsi Shomane from Botswana, Mr. Jomo Mfanawemakhosi Dlamini from eSwatini. Others were Mr. Tsoinyane Samuel Rapapa who is a member representing Lesotho. Mr. Henry Chimunthu Banda from Malawi, Mr. D.E. Dlakude from South Africa, Mr. Elias Mutale Mwila from Zambia as well as Lieutenant Nyambuya from Zimbabwe.

The European Union (EU) delegation included Co-president from Portugal Mr. Carlos Zorrinho, Head of delegation Co-Secretary General from Sweden Mr. Jesper Huglud, Mr. Gheorghe Falca from Romania and Mr. Gyogy Holvent and Mr. Marton Gyonggyosi both from Hungary.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Motsoahae Thabane who was scheduled to appear in Maseru magistrate court was not present in the national assembly but his deputy Prime Minister Dr. Monyane Moleleki and other coalition government partners Chief Thesele 'Maseribane and Mrs. Keketso Rants'o were present.

The national assembly will resume business on Monday February 24 afternoon.
