MASERU - Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane is expected to appear before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court later today where he faces charges of the murder of his estranged wife, Lipolelo.

This was confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner Paseka Mokete who heads the investigation into the murder.  DCP Mokete could, however, not be drawn to give further details into the matter, saying all would be revealed when the prime minister appears in court.

Thabane was in December last year asked by Police Commissioner Holomo Molibeli to appear before the police for questioning in connection with Lipolelo’s murder.  Lipolelo who was Thabane’s second wife was assassinated by unknown people on June 14, 2017 at the gate of her Ha ’Masana residence on the outskirts of Maseru.

The incident occurred two days before Thabane’s inauguration. During the attack, Lipolelo’s friend Thato Sibolla was also shot and she suffered serious gunshot wounds. Thabane is therefore also accused of the attempted murder of Sibolla.
