THE Senate will on Thursday this week convene a special sitting to appoint the President, Vice President, and members of the House.

According to the Clerk of the Senate, Advocate Tšeliso Molise, the election of the new President, Vice President, and members of the Senate is a result of the October 7, general elections that constituted the formation of a new government.
The current Senate has a total of 33 members. Twenty of them are hereditary tribal chiefs who perform executive functions for their respective communities while the 11 other Senators are nominated by the King on the Prime Minister's advice and generally align with the King in their legislative behaviour.
Members serve five-year terms and Senators may not serve simultaneously as Members of Parliament (MPs).
