MASERU - Winner of this year’s edition of the Lesotho High Altitude Summer Marathon (LHSM), Lebenya Nkoka has described the race as tougher than the one he won in 2017.

LHSM ends with a bang

Nkoka finished the race 2:31, a minute behind his official time he recorded two years ago. He was ahead of Lehlohonolo Raletebele and Teboho Noosi who finished second and third respectively.Nkoka said he received tough competition from Noosi who was the defending and was not willing to give his title without a fight.
In the women’s category, a Kenyan marathoner won in the absence of ’Mamoroallo Tjoka who has been tentatively suspended for allegedly evading a doping test.
Lesotho’s Lineo Chaka appeared in second position. The overall winners in both men and women’s divisions won M120 000 each. The annual event is financially backed by the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation as well as the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC).

According to Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association (LAAA) spokesperson Sejanamane Maphathe, a total of 1000 athletes from countries such as the US, UK, India, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya competed.
