IN spite of staying out of action for almost seven months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Likuena have moved two places up in the current FIFA World rankings.

According to FIFA rankings released on Thursday, Likuena are now on position 137 out of a total of 205 countries.

The national team will face Benin in November in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in a back to back meeting.

The Squirrels of Benin are ranked 84th in FIFA standings and 17th in Africa.

This shows that Likuena have a mountain to climb against their much stronger West African side.

In their last competitive game at home, Likuena lost 2-4 against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the second match of the AFCON qualifiers after the holding the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone to a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the group L.

Likuena head coach Thabo Senong

The Thabo Senong-led team began training almost three weeks ago with only local players in preparation for the AFCON qualifiers.

All foreign-based players plying their trade in South Africa including Motebang Sera who plays for Bloemfontein Celtic along with Tumelo Khutlang and Tšoarelo Bereng who are with Black Leopards are expected to join the squad later.
Senong has already named his 30-man provisional squad with minor changes from the one that lost against the Super Eagles.
