LEADER of Basotho National Party (BNP), Chief Thesele ’Maseribane has been prohibited by the High Court from attending the party's elective conference, which kicks off on Friday night.

According to the party's constitution, Chief ’Maseribane was expected to deliver his last leadership opening speech at the assembly, but the court order has ensure that he stays away. Asked to comment on the matter, he said he has acknowledged the order, pleading with fellow BNP members to always strive for unity and peace.

He also requested them to hold free, fair and peaceful elections over the weekend.
BNP Public Relations Officer, ’Maleshota Leshota said representatives from constituencies across the country have already arrived, adding that is an indication that the conference is starting.

She said party deputy leader, Machesetsa Mofomobe is expected to deliver the opening speech on behalf of the leader on Saturday morning, immediately after mass.

On March 25, BNP’s Mota Nkuatsana filed an application in the High Court, asking among others for the unseating of Chief ’Maseribane by March 26.

The court thereafter ordered Chief ’Maseribane to vacate the office of the party’s leader effective from March 27.

Mr Mofomobe as deputy automatically assumed the role of party leader, pending the results of the weekend conference for election of the substantive leader. LeNA
