The much-anticipated show has been scheduled for March 26, next year, at a place yet to be announced and only the finalists will battle for the top prize.

“We can already feel the fever of the March 2022 King Moshoeshoe Film Festival gripping the Mountain Kingdom and the rest of the world as our 58 contestants for Mr & Miss Culture Lesotho 2022 enter the second week of voting to stay in the competition.
“As the team leader of the King Moshoeshoe Film Festival management team, I would like to thank all our Facebook followers for participating in the voting process and I encourage you to continue following the developments on this unique and exciting programme.
“At the end of May, we shall add up all your votes for the four weeks and the top winner will walk away with M2 000. Sadly 18 of the 58 contestants shall be eliminated from the race after a physical adjudication event that will be held in Maseru in June or July,” explained Aubrey Silinyana of the Film Sector Groundbreakers – a company licensed to manage the event.

The prestigious event is defined as an indigenous contest that prioritises cultural heritage and tourism development in as much as it recognises physical beauty and contestants are expected to excel in all these aspects.

Only Lesotho citizens - males and females of all sizes, shapes and heights within the age bracket of 18 and 26 are eligible to participate in the event that is worth a total of M52 500 in cash prizes to be won between August 2021 and March 2022.

Silinyana said the contest will be held as a physical event with strict observation of the COVID-19 prevention health protocols, and that they have established a reality TV show to broadcast preparations for the event and the programme will be effective from August.

The annual event that normally runs during the King Moshoeshoe Film Festival in March was last held in 2018 in Leribe.

Last year’s edition of the prestigious festival was suspended when the raging COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
The winners – Mr and Miss Culture Lesotho will walk away M12 000 richer while first runners up will each pocket M6 000 with second runners up each collecting M3 000.

Among the current entrants is Bokang Molise of Ha ’Mathata, Maputsoe.
